Wednesday 13 – Condolences (2017)

In 2017 Wednesday 13 talked about doing and releasing his darkest record yet. He wanted to keep the same band together as the last record as he felt this build a tighter connection and it worked. He mentioned that the work would be more based around the eyes of a serial killer and darker lyrics.  After doing an unplugged tour with part of his band and Bourbon Crow this was a nice change.

He named the record Condolences due to the number of stars deaths and it felt like it was becoming more a common word in his world.

The band released a video for What the Night Brings first to set the pace for the up coming record. The second was released about a month later for Blood Sick (bit of a Spider Baby theme). Third video released was the comic driven Cruel to You. The forth video was released on release day of the cd for the title track Condolences. (which he used the fake tacked of his own death to prompt).

The tour itself to support the record was louder and more aggressive. Spider web images dot the background with a bright red logo of the name. One of the first shows for the tour was playing at the Download Festival with an addition to the stage of pyrotechnics from a trio of ladies.  Into the tour Wednesday 13 had to cancel a few dates due to his daughter Zoie Starr having a baby.

Personal View – Being waiting it seems forever for this record and finally it is here. This record does not disappoint when it comes to darker lyrics and heavier.  Going in the same heavy vein of the last record but more driven with killer tunes with less campiness. Some of the tunes that drive and stick out from this record (after many listens) are the opening track What the Night Brings, Cadaverous (necro feel again and I love when he sings about this topic), Blood Sick (one of the strongest tracks I personally find from W13), Omen Amen (heavy as hell and driven), Condolences (very classic Alice Cooper sound, nice guitar in the middle added touch), You Breathe, I Kill ( is very heavy and maybe the darkness yet, makes you want to kick some ass), Prey for Me (heavy riff and a nice drum track) and the ender was a surprise Death Infinity as I was waiting for an outro much like past records.

There really are no lacking tracks on this record even the rare ones took a couple listens and not long before my head and foot was going.  Love the direction of this record went and the way Wednesday 13 is marching towards creepier and darker stuff. Don’t get me wrong I love the campy side also (huge FDQFP13 fan) but this a nice killer soundtrack to be played and listened in order. “Sorry for you Loss” and “I fucking like it

9 Get Your Grave On” (Abra-Cadaver Mix)
10 Hail Ming” (Reign In Green Blood Mix)

Personal View – Nothing wrong with getting more rare and lots of lost stuff for my Wednesday 13 collection. Demos are always fun and when the lyrics are even different it is almost like another song. Except some of the demos are just parts and teasers. Not the strongest of tracks but the song bites and rarities are great. Love record cover also as it is so Wednesday 13 ….. ” and a bucket of chicken”

Some of the songs sit still on the fence like It’s a Wonderful Lie, Lipstick, Upon This Noose, Be My Exorcist, They Always Go For the Butcher Knife, Nightmare Man and  Rubber Mask.

Bu there are more songs in this set that I think would of been a nice addition on later records like  the very short Post Mortem Boredom, Xanaxtasy, Doomsday Afternoon, A Moment of Violence , Morgue and Mindy, Crawl, Horror Day, The Funeral Ball, Save The Last Grave, The Saw is Family and Spider Baby Crawl .

The true gems of the box set is Morgue and Mindy, Xanaxtasy and Spider Baby Crawl.

Wednesday 13- Re-Animated (2011)

After the success of Skeletons and the tour Wednesday 13 thought he would treat the fans with mixes of songs from that record. The cover of the record is the same as Skeletons except is a green tinged to it.

The money from this record and the Murderdoll tour of Women and Children Last in 2011 went to the Red Cross to support the people of Japan after the 8.9 earthquake.

Track List

1 Scream Baby Scream
2 Gimme Gimme Bloodshed
3 No Rabbit In The Hat
4 Put Your Death Mask On
5 All American Massacre

Band Members

Wednesday 13 – Vocals, Guitar

Nate Manor – Bass

Racci Shay – Drums

Jamie Hoover – Guitar

Personal View – I’m personally like songs the way they were intended on Skeletons. I like my metal as metal and I have never been a re-mix fan of any band.  But it is a nice keep sake in the collection.

Wednesday 13- Undead Unplugged (2014)

After doing the Bourbon Crow thing Wednesday 13 thought it would be cool to some a unplugged record to match the success of some of the unplugged shows he was doing.

In 2014 he released an acoustic record with versions of songs from his solo career, with one original track entitled Undead. The album also features acoustic versions of Murderdolls and Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13 songs, both being bands Wednesday 13 had fronted in the past.

Before the release of the Undead Unplugged , Wednesday 13 released a few acoustic versions of songs from Bloodwork and Spook and Destroy EPs with an acoustic version of Curse of Me first appearing on Spook and Destroy. The album was released shortly after The Undead Unplugged UK Tour in 2014.

Wednesday 13 and Jack Tankersley appeared on the record together but Roman Surman joined the Undead tour and on stage.

Personal View – The new track Undead is actually decent and new and some of the chosen tracks to do unplugged are nice as it hits all era of his catalogue.  Too bad that some of the songs were released earlier on EPs and not replaced for more new stuff but it was a nice addition to the Wednesday 13 collection.

Wednesday 13 – Monsters of the Universe : Come Out and Plague (2015)

Early in 2015 Wednesday 13 released his sixth solo record called Monsters of the Universe : Come Out and Plague. This record was different then what he has written before as it had more elements of sci-fi and space and the unknown. In the past his writing has been around horror but this round it was more sci-fi. another difference with this record also was this was the first time that someone else was involved in the writing, Roman Surman wrote Planet Eater: Interstellar 187.

Wednesday 13  offered fans their names in the booklet on gravestones and royal ghouls appearing in artwork he has offered 13 fans the opportunity to name the 13 monsters, planets and lifeforms that would be appearing in the CD booklet on his MorgueThanMerch store.

Wednesday 13 changed his stage presence a bit this round by using black make-up, small strop lights on the palms of his hands, a devils mask and a few other things like green flames to make the show more interesting.  He wanted to up the game on stage and head more into more theatrics much like his idols of music.

The singles on the record was Come on out and Plague, Keep Watching the Skies and Serpent Society.

Troy Doebbler – Bass

Kyle Castronovo – Drums

Personal View – This record is way heavier than what he has done in the past or at least seems darker. I was not sure about the lack of horror and more unknown but after a few listens the record is actually pretty decent and strong. The top ranking tune on this record are Monsters of the Universe, I Love Watching You Die, Into The Crop Circle, Keep Watching The Skies, Serpent Society and Bombs, Guns, Gods – This is a War . Overall this record is solid and is one of his best solo wise. New direction and something that you can stomp your foot too.

Wednesday 13 – The Dixie Dead (2013)

Right after the Calling All Corpses tour Wednesday 13 went right back into the studio and did a more hill billy horror theme record called The Dixie Dead. Like other Wednesday 13 records and song writing the songs were based around horror films and geek culture.

Everything from puns of Motley Crue, vampires, Poltergeist movie, Flash Gordons enemy Ming the Merciless and even a anthem that some believe is directed to Joey Jordison (Fuck You (In Memory Of…).  This record had a mixed bag of material.

Much like the last record this one had similar sounds when it came to backing vocals but the tracks were not just set to a certain tone as some songs were heavy while others had a touch of Bourbon Crow to them. Wednesday 13 toured to support the record with the same band that he had out last time.

Track List

1 Death Arise (Intro)
2 Blood Sucker

5 Too Fast for Blood

7 Coming Attractions
8 The Dixie Dead
9 Ghost Stories
10 Fuck You (In Memory Of…)

13 Death Arise (Overture)

Band Members

Wednesday 13 – Vocals, Keyboards

Roman Surman -Guitar

Jack Tankersley – Guitar

Troy Doebbler  – Bass

Jason “Shakes” West – Drums

Personal View – This record is a hit and miss for me. The sound for me does not do it when it comes to back vocals. Its too loud and chant like. But some of the songs are real great such as the title track (which you must use the intro Coming Attractions to get the full effect), Ghost Stories and one of my personal favorites Carol Anne…They’re Here.

But there are a few tracks on this record which I find is trying to hard, one that stands out is Fuck You (In Memory Of…) but then again it might be because it has more of Bourbon Crow sound. Not a bad record overall but not his strongest.

Standard Setlist for the Tour

  1. I Want You Dead
  2. Morgue Than Words
  3. Scream Baby Scream
  4. My Home Sweet Homicide
  5. Get Your Grave On
  6. I Want to be Cremated
  7. The Ghost of Vincent Price
  8. Put Your Death Mask On
  9. The Dixie Dead
  10. Ghost Stories

Wednesday 13 – Spook and Destroy (2012)

During the Calling All Corpses tour Wednesday 13 started to announce that there was a new EP coming out called Spook and Destroy but not a lot of details on why this came out .

Late 2012 the EP came out and it contained 2 new songs M.F.T.W. (Mother Fuck The World) and Halloween 13-13  along with past songs remixed or re-recorded.

5 Mr. Motherfucker (Re-Recording 2012)

8 Rambo (Bullets And Bloodshed Remix)

Band Members

Wednesday 13 – Vocals and Keyboards

Roman Surman – Guitar

Jack Tankersley  – Guitar

Troy Doebbler -Bass

Jason “Shakes” West – Drums

Personal View – Still do not understand why this was released as it was and not kept for later on as a full record. But either way it welcomed 2 new tracks of Wednesday 13 so no complaints.  I’m not going to get into the old songs as we all know them but the 2 new songs are very interesting.

The first rack M.F.T.W. (Mother Fuck The World) is a fist pumping anthem which I think he was trying to nail a new I Love to Say Fuck and to be honest he did it. This song should really be played live!

The second song Halloween 13-13 has a great beat to it. It has a hollow chant in the background which reminds me of a old Misfits song. Another fun track.

Wednesday 13 – Calling All Corpses (2011)

In 2011 Wednesday 13 recorded his fourth solo record called Calling All Corpses. The cover of the recording was a comic like 70s feel of horror comics done by  D.A Frizell.

Wednesday 13 changed his band up a bit from the Skeletons line up. This was the first recording for his solo efforts with guitarist Roman Surman, which grew into a longer relationship in his efforts.

The sound and songs on this record had changed as the back vocals become louder and the songs themselves had more of hard feel to them then the past recordings but it still stay true to the horror like themes. He did a large tour to support the record as the title track became a huge opener to the show to set the presence of the show. Wednesday 13 would walk upon the stag in his top hat and dress vest as the ringmaster of this the strange odd freak show on stag.

1 Blood Fades to Black (Intro)
2 I Wanna Be Cremated
3 Ghoul of My Dreams

Band Members

Wednesday 13 – Vocals, Guitar, Keyboards
Roman Surman – Guitar
Jack Tankersley – Guitar
Troy Doebbler – Bass
Jason “Shakes” West – Drums

Personal View – This record is a cross between Fang Bang and the a new direction of back vocal sounds that is shown in the next few records. The record is not as heavy and some of tracks are a tad weaker like One Knife Stand and Bad at Being Human.

But  many of the songs on this are strong like anthems for example Calling All Corpses, I Wanna Be Cremated, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Miss Morgue, Silver Bullets and Ghoul of My Dreams.  This record is pretty decent overall as sounds like Something Wicked This Way  and the title track just might be some of his best works.

Standard Setlist for the Tour

  1. Calling all Corpses
  2. I Walked With a Zombie
  3. Scream Baby Scream
  4. My Home Sweet Homicide
  5. Silver Bullets

Bourbon Crow – Long Way to the Bottom (2009)

In 2009 Wednesday 13 decided it was time again to get together with Rayen Belchere to do another Bourbon Crow record.  They named the record Long Way to the Bottom and started a fan base in which they called their fans Mules.

The songs on the second record are similar as the last record around drinking, fist swinging and more down in the dumps old country. The on tour support for this record finally happened, Wednesday 13 and Rayen performing dual vocals and acoustic guitar duties, this touring lineup also included current Wednesday 13 bassist Nate Manor on electric bass with Roman Surman as the electric guitarist.

1 Haulin’ Ass
2 Those Southern Times
3 Pour on Rain
4 Take a Bullet for You
5 Long Way to the Bottom
6 Life of Crime
7 You Have No Friends
8 Ol’ Whiskey Mountain
9 You and Me
10 In the Mood for a Drinking Song

Band Members

Bourbon Crow – Vocals, Guitar

Jessie Crow – Guitar, Vocals

Nate Manor – Bass

Roman Surman – Guitar

Personal View – This record sound is different and not as raw as the first record. It has more a up beat to old country with more instruments.  The record for me is too polished for what the project was suppose to be meant. Pour on Rain and You Have No Friends is a classic country song on this record and stands out.

Bourbon Crow – Highway to Hangovers (2006)

In 2006 Wednesday 13 and Rayen “kid kid” Belchere joined together to work on an old outlaw country gig called Bourbon Crow.  they each took on new personas such as Wednesday 13 became Buck Bourbon and Rayen became Jessie Crow.

The first record was dedicated to the Legend of Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. It was a raw stripped down recording of songs about booze, women, heart break and death.

Their was no real support tour or shows for this as Wednesday 13 was in a car accident and left him with a broken collar bone and a fractured ankle.

1 Alcohol Express
2 A Bed in the Desert
3 A Dead Body
4 Drink ‘Till You Ain’t Ugly
5 Suck My Dixie
6 I’m Not Hungover
7 Bolts in This Redneck

12 I Wish I Cared
13 Alcohol Is Awesome

Buck Bourbon – Vocals, Guitar

Jessie Crow – Guitar, Vocals

Personal View – Raw country was never my forte but this was something different then his past offerings. It is basic acoustic guitars and Wednesday 13 singing it through. Some of the songs are just simple but some of them have a very good story to tell for example A Bed in the Desert. Wednesday 13 actually has an old country style voice. Most of the record is pretty much drinking tunes and down in your luck songs. Which is not too bad to crank back at the camp or in your garage drinking beer.
